The Fuck-it Point
A film about the dark side of civilization, why we should bring it down and why most civilized people don’t.

Brilliant work – we’re with you all the way. We’ve published a satirical novel arguing for the same ideas http://www.facebook.com/DOGSharonTheFutureIsFemale
look forward to chatting

Thank you! I will check out your novel as soon as I can, it sounds great!
This is the most concise documentary on the current social, economic and environmental situation that I have ever seen. Amazing job!
I think your message is great, but the solution is unrealistic as the average consumer wont wake up until all their comforts are taken away. But in a way I understood you saying that you should eliminate extraction of resources as means of that. That still wont change human nature, but it might reset the cycle.
I take it you guys are from Sweden by your accent and some of the footage. I am an American that spent 13 years in Sweden so I can understand how you can easily come to the “Fuck-It” point. It’s a higher threshold in America as the consequences for disobedience are MUCH harsher. We have more wealth, guns, laws and prison inmates than anyone in the world. This is a sad state as America really has set the direction of the civilized world in recent history.
Anyway, great documentary, i will recommend it to others!
Thanks! I think people are as lulled to sleep here as in US, maybe not the same way though, people here are conscious but thinking someone will take care of all the bad stuff somehow.
I agree that the average consumer won’t change until being forced to, therefore I think it’s pointless to try to convince them not to consume because we are so trained to here in civilization.
I don’t think anyone have the best answer on how to stop the extraction of resources and exploitation of the world but we must try the very best we can! Then human nature will have to be to live closer together and share more or the species will eventually be doomed. But I don’t think that is inevitable… yet.
Take care!
Thanks
Hi,
Just saw this movie on TopDocumentary. It pretty much sums it up. Would you mind if I stole it, added subtitles for my country and posted on youtube or elsewhere?
Thanks for creating this. 🙂
M
Feel free to replicate it! If you want you can send me your translation so I can add it to youtube and blip! Nice to hear that you liked it!
Excellent! I will get on it but it will take time – you know – as said in the documentary – I also have a daytime job that pays the bills etc. 🙂 I will come back once it is ready though 🙂
not what I would call a good film. nevertheless, a very accurate and powerful one. will share. will act. thank you for your work.
Fuck it, im going to Wal-Mart.
We need to reach out more.
Thanks for making this documentary. If youtube are still blocking it, it can also be watched at http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-fuck-it-point/ 🙂
Thanks for making this documentary. If youtube are still blocking it, it can be seen at http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-fuck-it-point/ I like the sparse use of music, especially its absence over much of the dialogue. It made it more compelling to watch. “Less is More!!” Great job, well done.
Just as the Brits experienced a big decline in their prestige and standard of living through the 20th century, America is likely to experience the same fate in the 21st. But America will not go gently into that good night. Rather, I fear this country will do what Germany did and give in to the haters and demagogues who bound here.
If and when that happens, do not delude yourself into thinking Direct Action will survive. If shortages lead to panic and a totalitarian government, those who bust up the machines that exploit the environment will be given long sentences in the most brutal prison system in the western world.
In my opinion the tipping point of modern civilization will be triggered by the giants of Asia as they strive to emulate the most ostentatious and wasteful aspects of American life.
And you’re right, it won’t happen suddenly. Over the next 20 years people will try to live as they did in the past but will be more and more unable to. This will bring about a reaction against the one-percenters and the system in general. Civil unrest will be used to justify the election of a far-right government that will use vicious repression to retain the status quo.
I’m 62, an average middle class American. Unlike most of my generation, I am aware of the price the earth has paid to support my piggish lifestyle — from the thousands of animals that have died to keep me obese to the huge amount of trash my household generates every week, and on and on. I probably won’t live long enough to pay the price, and that is another reason for me to feel guilty: My children and my childrens’s children will suffer the consequences of my generation’s mindless greed.
I do share your fears of this right wing regime, we live in sweden and the political situation is not as far down that road yet, but we see it coming. I do not think the left will be able to “solve” this better, I think we have to go deeper and question the foundations of modernity and what we value and why, in today’s society. Direct action can probably win small victories, but for DA to make an impact in the big picture it has to be scaled up and a lot of actions has to occur. There is an ongoing debate on what actions are efficient for making change, and that is another important topic. I just think that our survival is more important and sometimes sentences is a smaller loss than a dying planet. The first thing we need to do on a large scale is to slow down the destruction and keep in mind that there is nothing inevitable about continuing the destruction, it is a choice made over and over every day by masses of people, corporations and politicians.
Hopefully we can get the chance to teach others about what is behind these crisis’s instead of some new nazi regime blaming it all on immigrants or arabs. There are a lot of reasons to take action I think, simply building ones own lifeboat probably won’t work in this scenario, so we’ll have to find a way to reach the masses and change the direction of the whole herd.
I don’t think you should feel guilty for living the life you’ve had, we are all victims to our circumstances and we are taught early on to live a certain way by our society and we are being excluded from human contact if we try to live in another way. These are complex issues and I really appreciate that it engages people! Keep it up!

I watched this. I can’t even being to describe how much I disagree with 90% of what you attempt to claim. However, you don’t have a “therefore, what?” You also don’t compare anything. You obviously are sure what you are against, but are not sure what you are for. Sure, you are for going back to the way Native Americans used to live, but you don’t clearly articulate what that really means. With less “exploitation”, means less people, which means most of human civilization will necessarily have to die. You see, the less food and resources we produce, means the less available. No way around it. You want people to unnecessarily die – adopt your plan. Your plan also requires that freedom be taken away from individuals, which you also don’t clearly state. The way we got here was because individuals were free to pursue their own objectives and goals – which usually includes making lots of money for themselves and their family.
We clearly have a conflict of visions and we won’t agree, but I will say that the western world will have to accept a lower standard of living, but not because resources will be dwindling. It will be because governments have spent too much money from the next generation on their own generation. They have done what is called “borrowing from future demand”. When you go buy a car, you are doing the same thing. I’m going to demand something now, and will not demand something later. However, it is my responsibility to pay it back myself in a span of 5 or 10 years or whatever. When it comes to governments, they are demanding things now and spending a lot of money, but they plan on paying it back with younger peoples money. In other words, they are spending money on this generation, and the next generation will pay it back. However, that next generation will get no benefit for what they are paying for. We as a people have taken the standard of living of further generations so we can have a better life today. We are all responsible for it because we have allowed our governments to lie to us and say everything will be okay. What is happening in Greece is just the tip of the iceberg. While we disagree on the reasons why, I would agree that sometime in the near future we will have to bend over and grab our ankles soon, because we are all fucked! Once the next generation finds out about this, they won’t be very happy about it!
Hi, I don’t follow you all the way, we may agree that this generation of people have borrowed resources from future generations and that’s a big problem, western countries have not only borrowed resources from unborn westerners but also from other peoples around the globe and also from what we call “nature”.
“You obviously are sure what you are against, but are not sure what you are for.”
I am sure what is wrong, but no simple solution to these enormous problems will do. I do not propose that we will “return” to the way native americans lived, some native american cultures also cut down forests and devastated their habitats and that was of course a problem for them. There also were advanced civilizations before Europeans came to America, and they also cut their own throats. I think we need to be very wise and learn from mistakes made before us if we are to survive.
“With less “exploitation”, means less people, which means most of human civilization will necessarily have to die. You see, the less food and resources we produce, means the less available. No way around it. You want people to unnecessarily die – adopt your plan.”
So you think it is inevitable to have more and more cars and more technology of all sorts all the time? I think not, I think it is a choice we make, less exploitation means less stuff and then less convenience. I don’t mean we will just stop produce food and let people die. I would like to see poor people becoming in charge of their own lands again and for wealthy countries to give support whenever there is a famine anywhere in the world. The food is also very unequally distributed now, there are more people suffering side effects from obesity than there are people starving in the world (there are around 1 000 000 000 malnourished and hungry people in the world today, which is more than ever before). So unnecessarily people die every day, I don’t think one single person should be “necessary” to kill really. We also need to look at modern agricultures negative side effects such as being driven by fossil fuels such as oil and phosphorus and then if we cannot make it better we need to just grow more food at home. I don’t even think people will suffer much if they replace computers and cars with food communities and some physical labour. What I propose is that natural balance have to recover so life returns to its cyclical paths instead of its trajectory towards collapse. Because if our way of life is not cyclical we are eventually going to run out of means to continue.
“Your plan also requires that freedom be taken away from individuals, which you also don’t clearly state. The way we got here was because individuals were free to pursue their own objectives and goals – which usually includes making lots of money for themselves and their family.”
Yes!? What freedom? For rich people to make money from poor people slaving? I’d rather see everyone free than just a minority.
“What is happening in Greece is just the tip of the iceberg. While we disagree on the reasons why, I would agree that sometime in the near future we will have to bend over and grab our ankles soon, because we are all fucked! Once the next generation finds out about this, they won’t be very happy about it!”
I don’t think I ever mentioned Greece, I don’t talk so much about specific examples in the film, there are other people talking about that. What are your analysis on Greece?
What I think about when I read you comment is that money is just a representation of something else, available resources of some kind. So for people to have a decent life there has to be some real resources, not only a lot of money because we can’t eat/breathe/drink it. Well… Anyway I don’t put forward any solution, even though I’m pretty sure what I am for because I think without resistance to the order of today we won’t have any negotiating power, not a single solution will then be put to test if there is no money to be made from it. And I don’t think we can make money short term from consuming less, because the system works that way. If you think about something else, maybe write another comment!
Great comment. I would probably add that its also a little biased to suggest that a return to a more primative way of life is going to kill lots of people, really? Just exactly how many people in our modern safe civilisation die as a result of pollutants in our waterways, toxicity in our food, carcinogens in the air we breathe or the millions globally killed by car accidents, drug overdoses, carpet bombing and a
host of other weird and wonderful ways we have invented to wipe ourselves off the earth…one way or the other a heap of people will die at least with a return to nature we can guareentee providing a cleaner better safer world to ensuing generations then the one we are catapulting towards at the moment…
One must also take into accouint the number of lives extended and saved by modern medical science. A return to the woods would mean a return to a life in which disease and predators become legitimate threats again. Maybe I’m not sure what youi mean by a return to a pre-“civilization” lifestyle.
Just saw “Fuck-It”. Very effective. It was a jolt to my system (oops, did I say ‘system’?). I’m 53, so it would be very easy to say that i’m too old and I’ll probably die before the next world war. After seeing the film, I’m not so sure. People who protest and get on CNN or whatever are so easily dismissed that I can see little value in it. I can see a possible strategy of working from the inside (corporation, gov’t, etc.) to do the most damage in terms of sabotage. But that will harm “innocent” people, won’t it? If someone or ones launch a cyber attack on say the electrical grid of the eastern seaboard (not that I condone such behavior), won’t people die who are say being kept alive by a machine run with electricity? What if it happens in the middle of complex surgery of some sort? Yeah, the hospital probably has a back-up electrical generator but what if it takes time to come online? Should we accept a certain number of casualties as the price for promoting a greater good which is to make people aware of what life would be like when the power plants no longer function in say 2057? Of course, I’ll have to think about this more and if that’s the only benefit of the film I say it has done it’s job well.
Savagerevival, I am completely with you. I enjoyed reading your last answer to Thades’ comment, because you said it right, I agree with all. We have to do something, many things, & fast, b4 it is 2 late.
If there is anything I can do to help you with your cause, do let me know.
Your film works fine as a basic summary of some of the massive problems we face. But that’s been done a fair bit before. And every environmental documentary ends with a message somewhere along the lines of ‘now go out there and change things’ (although admittedly few seem to suggest violent resistance & sabotage like your film.)
But I think what’s really needed is a coherent vision of how 7 billion people (rising to 9 billion by 2050) can live together sustainably and with a decent basic quality of life. Without that, you are never going to persuade a large enough proportion of the population to put aside their own short term attempts to accumulate wealth. Fear of scarcity only increases greed.
Unless you can show people some way that we can transition from the current global system to a new one (short of a mass human population cull), then they’re never going to actively work to bring down the old system, however doomed they know it is. They will continue to see environmental protestors as a threat, and you will not change anything.
We need viable alternatives to oil & fertilizer based agriculture that can feed future population levels. We need to develop food sources that will survive the coming changes in climate. We need to find ways to provide power and warmth to people without further degrading the environment. We need a global plan. Rather than just tearing everything down and saying you’ve done your bit. The hard work has to come beforehand, in preparing the alternative. Desired societal change comes not as a reaction to direct action by a minority (which is why terrorism rarely succeeds), but as a result of people feeling confident enough to try alternatives themselves, and demanding that their governments allow such changes to take place. People need to see that alternatives have been fully thought through, that they can work on a global scale, and can be implemented in managable steps, before they’ll even consider a change. They’re not just going to leap into the dark.
Civilizational collapse is not something hopeful. It brings famine, war, barbarism, death on an unimmaginable scale. If we bought the current system crashing to it’s knees without a viable alternative in place, we would not simply revert to hunter-gatherer tribes. As food runs scarce we will strip the land bare in a desperate struggle to survive. I doubt the type of people doing the right things now (permaculture etc.) will be the ones to weather the storm. In a collapse the brutal & ruthless triumph. And that’s without even considering the world’s nuclear weapon stockpile.
I’m not saying I have the answers to any of this stuff. But I do think we need answers, before we start sabotaging our current system.
One of the most honest and concise documentaries about the state of the world today. Thank you.
The first step is to educate humanity because ignorance is how we were brought here.
Knowledge brought us here, education needs to stop.
Impossible to see it from France!!!

THANX
see what?
PLEASE SPANISH SUBTITLE
thanks gosh I was able to see it from Argentina and now I’d like people here to see it too so I was thinking about translating it into Spanish. is it possible to have it in written English?
Thanks that would be great! There is a file on this page if you rightclick on english subtitle and chose save as. It is a .srt-file and it is possible to open it and replace the text in a basic text editor. If that does not work, write me again and I’ll try to make a text file.
wanted to do the same in italian and post it on my page and website (very soon) if you allow me……
Sure that sounds great! Send me a link and a copy of the subtitle-file if you want. laurafjaderlov (at) googlemail.com
wow I saw your response just now! I’m down to work as soon as i can! thank you!! let you know when i’m done
@savagerevival
Do you think people are mostly good, acting on chemical or spiritual signals in the brain, such as empathy and compaction, guilt, kindness, love?
Cause the way I see it people are mostly arse holes! Does that make me a arse hole for not having unconditional love for my fello humans.
People want to kill each other, weather it’s a rase devied that separates people or religion, or football team or side of town your from, people like having a scrap, eating there kebab and telling there pals about what knob head they filled in down the town after a few jars. Have people not already said fuck it? Fuck it I don’t care people have said. Let’s just emagian a huge crack in the sky opened tomorrow and a big smilly face popped out and said “hi everyone, god here (or alian or whatever), let’s all just calm down or your going to ruin you home, by the way try not to kill each other yeah, war and that, it’s a bit shit, so you know just find a new hobby yeah, cheers, see you in anorther few thousand years” would much change, McDonald’s would still sell burgers cause people would still want to eat them, other examples ect ect.
So the majority of people dont care we agree. Cause they have been conditioned lied to held down by fear, ect ect.
However some people do care, so, where are they where is the Gandhi’s or dr kings’s or bob Marley.s to bring the reviloution to majority of people’s eyes.
I don’t really know what I’m on about you know, I wouldn’t even call my self a bed room activist cause I’m not that active. I don’t have a opinion cause I can’t trust what I can research to form one.
Too much war, not enough love.
I like my iPhone, I don’t grow my own veg, still eat meat, know 911 was more than fishy. Don’t vote, travel on planes, watch redtube, wast time and money, claim benefit ect ect.
Realy enjoyed your documentary though!
Oh just a quick one for ya, whats you opinion on the london riots, you used some footage of that. Civil unrest, or people up for a good time/ free tv’s?
Hope some one gets back to me, took me 20 minuets to write all that nonsense.
PEACE
Shit, that’s exactly the feeling. I don’t think people will ever change to being better and so change the world to be sustainable, peaceful and healthy etc. People are not bad versions of some product to be improved and upgraded. People are full of imperfections and are violent, egoistic, selfish, mean, but also loving and caring to a degree. I think what you’re getting at is really the big issue. I think part of the reason this system will not and can not ever function is that people will not improve, we can not have a system that depends on speeding up the evolution of empathy and loving kindness to work in the long run.
However I think that rather small groups of people can do a lot of harm to this insane system, because it’s built on physical structures to function and so has physical weaknesses. And in proportion I think few really dedicated people could do a lot to prevent the rest of the people from killing the world. I can recommend looking at END:CIV and reading books like endgame by derrick jensen and find people that are into stopping this genocidal culture from wrecking the world. If you want to contribute in a way that isn’t depending on having a majority of people changing their minds I think you could look at what is happening at the anarchist scene. Find some great people, head out in the woods! I used to love my iPhone but now I got rid of it and it’s great having so much time and energy doing other things.
Sorry for a late answer but I moved out in the woods to an action-camp. That’s a way to find cool comrades.
Peace, love and molotov’s!
Thank you. It’s time for Resistance.
Hey man.
I put the documental on YouTube: http://youtu.be/gpM1v4yDqd0
But someone or some institution or company called Universum calls for the rights of this material. So i say fuck-it with them, i’m denying that “suppose” property of the documental and i´m arguing on youtube to allow me to publish the material, baceuse the reason is not the earnings but the simple publication to public opinion of this documetal.
So, Am i right to defend the freedom to publish this material on youtube and put it on reach to many more public?
Tell me if don´t to delete it immediatly.
Very good point of view, by the way and personally, even when you out there can think anything. Global population control must be an option as an intelligent and civilized measure to control our impact on our beloved earth.
But this is impossible when a buch of idiots still sustain that “that” would mean a total crash or collapse of human population. While thinking the numbers are growing arithmetically. very complex.
Thanks anyway, it´s a fine work.
